The United Way of Southeast Mississippi has raised more than $1.62 million in its annual fundraising campaign.
The funds are used to support the United Way and its 21 local partner agencies.
Dan Kibodeaux, executive director of the United Way of Southeast Mississippi, said this year’s revenue may increase some since the organization is still awaiting fundraising reports from national organizations.
The nonprofit organization held a meeting Tuesday to celebrate the fundraising efforts.
Officials say the fundraising campaign’s success was remarkable considering the current economic climate. Several non-profits have seen their donations plummet during the recession.
