Officials consider changes in airport position

Officials are considering cutting the Brookhaven-Lincoln County Airport’s managerial position down to a part-time job, saving payroll funds and allowing the facility’s automated features to run in a self-service capacity.
Director of Public Works Steve Moreton said the city will monitor the airport’s operations over the next week to determine if a part-time position can handle the job or if a new, full-time employee should be hired to the position.
Street department employee Billy Case took over as an interim airport manager last week after former manager Clifford Britt resigned.
Before Britt resigned, his position at the airport paid $12.17 per hour, making it a $25,000 per year occupation.
Aldermen will likely discuss the airport manager’s job at their meeting Tuesday night.
