The city of Ocean Springs will begin construction April 20 on a sportsplex that will include four softball fields, five baseball fields of varying sizes, four soccer fields and two football fields.
The Ocean Springs Ball Fields Complex will be located off Mississippi Highway 57.
Funding for the project was provided from the city’s 2 percent sales tax on restaurants and bars.
Geri Straight, director of the city’s parks department, said the complex will be a big improvement for the more than 600 children who play soccer, baseball, softball and football in Ocean Springs.
Straight says children in the soccer program won’t have to go to Gautier, and parents with multiple ball players in the family can go to one location for games.
