Goodness gracious, great boils of crawfish… Picayune Industries joined forces with River Country Enterprises and ARC of Pearl River County, to bring its annual Intellectual Disabilities/Developmental Disabilities Awareness Day celebration to Picayune.

Not even the flooding rains of the later half of last week could prevent guests from around the community from enjoying the food, fellowship and fun that was to be had at Picayune Industries headquarters last Friday. While the major focus of the event was to bring everyone together for ID/DD Awareness Month in March, everyone could not help but enjoy the abundant bounty of food and the eclectic mix of tunes played by D.J. Kirk Jacobs — “Cupid Shuffle” and “Great Balls of Fire” brought several takers to the dance floor.

Several special guests were in attendance, including Pearl River County Sheriff David Allison, Chancery Clerk David Earl Johnson, Pearl River County Administrator Adrain Lumpkin, volunteers who came out to boil crawfish and many others.

Special Education departments from the local schools were well represented, including Early Head Start and Hancock North Central.

The hosts on the day would like to thank the many local businesses and individuals who have supported this event and make it possible every year. It’s a great way for the community to meet and get involved with the individuals who work for Picayune Industries every day.
