State Epidemiologist Dr. Mary Currier said the state Department of Health has received dozens of cultures to be tested for swine influenza as physicians across the state respond to a call for increased surveillance.
Currier, who spoke at a briefing Wednesday, says doctors are submitting specimens from anyone who has flu-like symptoms.
So far, the number of cases confirmed across the country is nearing 100, but Currier says there is none in Mississippi.
Currier says the state should expect a shipment of 75,000 dosages of Tamiflu by the end of this week. The antiviral drug has proven to be helpful in the treatment of swine flu, which has killed some 150 people in Mexico.
A child in Texas has also died from the virus.
