Energy program paying off for DeSoto schools
DeSoto County School District officials say the district has saved $1 million with an energy savings program that includes computerized temperature controls.
Jimmy Avery, the district’s energy manager, says lighting retrofits and reminding faculty to turn off lights has also helped in the past two years.
Avery can monitor the heating, cooling and energy output at nearly every school in the county from a computer in his office.
He says DeSoto schools “are striving to become greener every day.”
DeSoto County is in north Mississippi near the Tennessee line.
