Forrest County officials were investigating two fires set Tuesday night by inmates.

Hattiesburg Fire Capt. Brady Ingram says both fires occurred shortly after 9 p.m. Tuesday on third and fourth floors of the jail. Inmates were removed from the floors.

Ingram says both fires were small and firefighters went in to clear out the smoke.

The inmates were allowed to return to their cells just before midnight.

Officials say a jail employee was treated for smoke inhalation at Forrest General Hospital.
