More than 3,000 Mississippi Guardsmen will mobilize for deployment to Iraq.

The Mississippi National Guard says 3,400 soldiers of the Guard’s 155th Brigade Combat Team, headquartered in Tupelo, will report to their units on Friday, then travel to the Camp Shelby near Hattiesburg for post-mobilization training.

Lt. Col. Tim Powell, spokesman for the Guard, said they will then be deployed overseas for about a year in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, starting in June.
