Zach Scruggs has been released from the Lafayette County Detention Center and is back in a halfway house following an investigation about whether he violated any rules.

The 34-year-old Scruggs was arrested Feb. 27, three days after being released from federal prison in Forrest City, Ark. He had served six months of a 14-month sentence for having knowledge of an attempted bribery scheme and not reporting it. He pleaded guilty in March 2008 in a judicial bribery scandal that included his father and three others.

The Bureau of Prisons initiated an investigation after people reported seeing Scruggs around Oxford on Feb. 24, the day he was to report to Tupelo.

His attorney says contrary to previous reports that Scruggs had arrived late at the halfway house, he had reported 15 minutes early.
