Woman to be Miss. Guard’s first brigadier general

Catherine S. Lutz is set to become the first female brigadier general in the Mississippi National Guard.

Lutz, a colonel from Flora, will be promoted during a ceremony Saturday at the Guard’s headquarters in Jackson. Lutz has been a member of the Mississippi Air National Guard’s 172nd Airlift Wing, first serving as a flight nurse in 1982.

She is currently the Air National Guard assistant to the chief nurse of the Air Force at Bolling Air Force Base in Washington, D.C.
