UPDATE – Miss. lawmakers honor retiring Ole Miss chancellor
State lawmakers on Wednesday honored Robert Khayat, who’s retiring this summer as 15th chancellor of the University of Mississippi.
Khayat has led his alma mater since 1995.
During a brief ceremony at the Capitol, Khayat said he has emphasized a team approach to management, and administrators have tried to create an atmosphere “where respect is a value that is embraced.”
During Khayat’s tenure, Ole Miss has increased its private fundraising efforts. It was one of three universities in the nation to host a presidential debate during the 2008 general election.
The state College Board is searching for Khayat’s successor.
The resolutions are House Concurrent Resolution 56 and Senate Concurrent Resolution 579.
