A state record-setting blue catfish caught by a 10-year-old boy on the Mississippi River has been donated to the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science in Jackson.

Dakota Hinson caught the 95-pound fish last week and it was weighed on a scale certified by the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks.

Hinson was fishing with his cousin and a family friend on the Mississippi River south of Natchez when he thought he had caught his line on a log. The log turned out to be the biggest fish anyone on the boat had ever seen.

Hinson said it took about 20 minutes to haul in the fish, which is 2 pounds heavier than the previous record set in 1997.
