A Smithdale mother was killed and her two children critically injured in a one-vehicle collision in eastern Amite County.

Sheriff Timothy Perkins says 38-year-old Angela Jones was pronounced dead at the scene Saturday on Thompson Road outside of Smithdale.

Perkins said Jones was traveling east when her car left the road and slammed into a cedar tree.

The impact of the collision sent Jones’ 3-year-old son Omarion Jones halfway through the windshield. Her 11-year-old son Oriane Jones was tossed around inside the car and pinned beneath the back seat.

Perkins said no one inside the vehicle wore seat belts.
