Lamar Co. still waiting on Hurricane Katrina funds

Lamar County supervisors say they are still waiting for the Federal Emergency Management Agency to reimburse the county about $300,000 in road repairs related to Hurricane Katrina.

The county was informed by FEMA that it was eligible for federal funds to assist with the cleanup effort after Katrina lashed the region in August 2005.

County Administrator Chuck Bennett said the county had decided to move forward with the repairs when FEMA stepped in with its offer. The repairs were completed in 2007 and following a review by FEMA, the agency told the county it would be able to provide funds.

Bennett says he turned in all requested documents last May, but there have been delays with misplaced paperwork and an auditor change.
