A Staff Report

D’IBERVILLE — Picayune and D’Iberville moved their Division 8-4A fast-pitch softball game up a day to beat the expected inclement weather that’s supposed to blanket South Mississippi over the next few days.

The change couldn’t hep the Lady Tide snap their current losing streak, though.

D’Iberville, which was ranked as the number one team in the state last week, shutout visiting Picayune 8-0 behind standout pitcher Kimmi Wagner.

Picayune’s Brooke Meitzler broke up Wagner’s perfect game in the sixth with a single, the Lady Tide’s lone hit. Wagner struck out 15 as the Lady Warriors remained in second place in the league behind Long Beach. D’Iberville jumped ahead 4-0 in the first and cruised on to the win behind Wagner, who has signed a softball scholarship with Western Kentucky University. The loss ended a tough week for Picayune, which has now lost four straight games in the past six days and dropped eight of its last nine contests. The Lady Tide is 8-14 overall and 1-7 in league play. The Lady Tide managed just two runs in the past four defeats.
