Lady Hornets beat Lady Tide

It didn’t take Poplarville long to get back on the winning track.
After having their 11 game win streak snapped on Thursday, the Lady Hornets bounced back Friday to knock off homestanding Picayune 6-0 in Division 8-4A play.
The win pushes Poplarville to 12-1 overall and 2-1 in league play, while Picayune dropped its fourth straight game and now stands 7-9 overall and 0-4 in league play.
Megan Ladner took the win for Poplarville, as she struck out 12 and allowed just three hits.
Chelsea Theriot had two singles and a double at the plate as well as three RBI’s to lead Poplarville, while Kayla Ross and Janessa Dedeaux had a pair of hits each and Ladner added a triple.
Poplarville hosts Bay High Monday while Picayune visits Pearl River Central Tuesday.

POPLARVILLE — Pop-larville won its first game under new head coach J.J. Fortune Friday, smacking Bay High 12-2.
The win moves the Hornets to 1-9 overall and 1-5 in Division 8-4A play. Bay High is 1-5 in league play also.
Maverick Smith was the big gun for Poplarville in the win, driving in five runs including hitting a grand slam Donovan Touchet added a double to the winning cause.
Taylor Carr picked up the win on the mound, scattering five hits and striking out seven in the five inning game.
“It was big for us to get that first win,” Fortune said. “And winning by 10 runs was special too, it just proves to the kids what we can do when we execute and compete.”
The Hornets travel to St. Martin Tuesday.
PRC Baseball
BAY ST. LOUIS — Pearl River Central dropped its sixth straight Division 8-4A contest Friday night and remains winless in league play on the season.
Homestanding St. Stanislaus beat the Blue Devils 5-3.
The Rockachaws remained unbeaten in division play at 4-0 with the win.
Blaise Allen ran his record to 4-0 behind a 16-strikeout effort taking the win, while Blake Herrin took the loss in a complete game performance for PRC.
James Abraham, Boomer Scarborough and Lawrence Bourgeois all hit home runs for SSC.
PRC plays at Long Beach on Tuesday.
Picayune baseball
GAUTIER — Picayune won its seventh straight game Friday night, shutting down Gautier on the road 10-0.
The win moves Picayune to 8-1 on the year.
Jared Bales had a solo home run and a double to lead the Maroon Tide, while Jacob Riser had two hits and drove in two runs as well. Kyle Beech added a two run single to the winning cause.
Hunter Gill picked up the win for the Tide. Picayune returns to Division 8-4A play Tuesday hosting D’Iberville.
