A Gulfport man died of a heart attack in front of the Picayune Police department in his vehicle apparently while waiting to bond out a family member on Wednesday.

Pearl River County Coroner Derek Turnage said the man was identified as Lutrell Penton, 61, of Gulfport.

Deputy Chief David Ervin said Penton apparently called a bonding agent to meet him at the department so he could bond out his family member. The bonding agent discovered Penton in his vehicle and reported it to department personnel.

An ambulance was dispatched and Penton was taken to Highland Community Hospital where he was pronounced dead, Turnage said. An autopsy concluded the cause of death was due to a heart attack.
