U.S. District Count Judge Sharion Aycock has rejected a proposed guilty plea from defendant Derek “Dee” Salley that would reduce charges in the Greenwood Police Department’s stolen guns case.

Salley’s trial is scheduled to begin June 15.

At the time of the thefts, Salley worked for the Leflore County Road Department. He is facing federal charges of conspiracy, stealing the handguns and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Salley had offered to plead guilty to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and to receiving and possession a stolen firearm.

Salley is one of six defendants charged in the thefts of 11 handguns and five Colt M-16 machine guns from Greenwood police headquarters between Sept.1, 2005 and Jan. 6, 2006.
