An accident Friday evening sent a mother and her two year old son to the hospital.

Mississippi Highway Patrol Pubic Information Officer Cpl. Johnny Poulos said the accident took place at about 7:31 p.m. on Miss. 43 North and involved three vehicles.

At that time, a north-bound Chevrolet Z71 driven by Alaric Aucoin, 48, of New Orleans entered into the south bound lane. Poulos said Aucoin did not have on his headlights at the time. After the Z71 entered into the south bound lane, it grazed a Ford Ranger driven by 51 year-old Brian Keller of Carriere, before striking a Ford Taurus head on, which was driven by Gail Morris, 31, of Long Beach.

Morris and her 2-year-old son were taken to Forrest General Hospital on Hattiesburg for treatment of serious injuries, Poulos said.

As with all accidents that result in injuries, the involvement of drugs and/or alcohol is under investigation.

Poulos said a second minor one-vehicle accident also occurred on Miss. 43 N. Monday morning before 8 a.m. where the vehicle left the road. He said that accident involved no injuries and only minor damage to the vehicle.
