Delores Blanchard Doss

Dolores Blanchard Doss, 80, passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at home in Ovideo, Fla. with her family at her side. She was born March 17, 1929 in Gretna, La., the daughter of Whitney and Alice Blanchard.

She was a homemaker and retired from the Jefferson Parrish Sheriffs in Gretna after 20 years as a crossing guard. She was a member of Church of God of Prophecy in Oviedo for three years, and a member of the Christian Life Assembly of God in Picayune for 17 years.

She was preceded in death by: her beloved husband of 36 years, Harold Conway Doss; and son, David C. Mock.

She is survived by: a daughter, Diane Watts of Geneva, Fla.; sons, Nolan Doss of Marrero, La. and Roland Doss of Harvey, La.; three brothers, Preston Blanchard, Whitney Blanchard, both of Louisiana, Wayne Blanchard of Florida; and four sisters, Mary Lawson, Ellen Blanchard, Ruth Vigier, all of Louisiana, and Elaine Johnson of Kentucky; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren, and one great great-grandchild.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, March 28 in the chapel of Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Drive, Metairie, La., at 11:30 a.m. Visitation will be 10 a.m. until funeral time. Interment in the Garden of Memories Cemetery.
