State health officials have issued a precautionary boil-water alert for customers who receive drinking water from the town of Sumrall water system in Lamar County.

This affects 620 customers in the area.

Water system officials notified the Mississippi State Department of Health of a system-wide pressure loss due to one or more line breaks caused by flooding. When a distribution system loses pressure, contaminants can siphon back into the water.
