A man and a woman charged in the slaying of a Laurel teacher have pleaded not guilty to capital murder charges.
Prosecutors say they will seek the death penalty in the case.
Jones County Circuit Judge Billy Joe Landrum scheduled Aug. 24 trial dates for 23-year-old Ricky J. Gavin Jr. and 18-year-old Kenya E. Davis.
The two are charged in the November 2008 stabbing death of 29-year-old Rebecca Pruitt, an elementary school teacher. Pruitt’s body was found by firefighters at her home.
Prosecutors say a fire was set to cover up the crime.
