A Texas truck driver has been arrested on drug charges after Mississippi officials found about 463 pounds of marijuana in the trailer pulled by his rig.
Jaime Martin Renteria of Brownsville, Texas, was arrested Tuesday at a weigh station near Nesbit off Interstate 55 in north Mississippi.
He was being held in the DeSoto County Jail without bond awaiting an initial court appearance. The 36-year-old Renteria has been charged with marijuana with intent to deliver.
Mississippi Department of Transportation officials say officers became suspicious when they spotted two different company names on Renteria’s 1997 Freightliner tractor.
MDOT says after the officers got permission to search the tractor and trailer, they found 20 cardboard boxes with a bundle of marijuana in each box.
