The Jones County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a drowning in the Sharon community.

Sheriff Alex Hodge said a 17-year-old male juvenile drowned in a private lake on Hidden Lake Road on Saturday after the boat he and a friend from Jones County were riding in reportedly overturned.

The body was recovered after 4 p.m. by Jones County authorities.

The name of the victim hasn’t been released.

Hodge said the victim was a senior in the Jones County School System.
