Purvis police have arrested a Lamar County substitute teacher on child pornography charges.

The police say they were tipped off by inappropriate text messages on a student’s phone.

Andrew Johnson, an investigator with Purvis police, said 29-year-old George Fries was arrested Monday after the grandparent of a student saw text messages he deemed unusual and reported to police.

Johnson said the phone number traced back to Fries, and after obtaining a warrant, police seized his computer and cell phone.

Police say evidence of child pornography, including images of at least one student whom Fries had taught, was found.
