Moss Point Mayor Xavier Bishop has announced that he will not seek re-election this year.

Bishop was elected to the city’s top office in 2005 and served on one term. He took office in July 2005, a few weeks before Hurricane Katrina hit the Mississippi Gulf Coast in August. He guided the city’s recovery from Katrina.

Bishop says the past four years had been long and arduous but the city is again a strong and viable community on the coast.
