Efforts to save a dolphin found a week ago on the beach in Pass Christian have failed.

The dolphin died over the weekend at the Institute of Marine Mammal Studies in Gulfport.

Scientists say the dolphin had too many health problems and couldn’t be saved.

The dolphin was found on the beach on Feb. 17. Institute employees there brought the dolphin to its facility in Gulfport.

Volunteers helped keep the animal afloat 24 hours a day while the veterinarian treated him for parasites, respiratory issues and heart problems.
