Father Michael Snyder of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church uses his thumb dipped in ashes to paint a cross on the forehead of this young girl as she and others celebrated Ash Wednesday by having the cross painted on their head with ashes. Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the 40 days of Lent, a time of reflection and repentance. Lent officially ends for Catholics at sundown on Holy Thursday. Sundays are skipped in counting the 40 days before Easter. (Photo by Jeremy Pittari)
