Appeals Court hears arguments in rehab center case

The city of Cleveland was challenging before that the state Court of Appeals Court a ruling that it says could mean the loss of 75 skilled nursing home beds.

The Appeals Court was hearing arguments Tuesday in Jackson.

A DeSoto County judge ruled in January that Mid-South Associates LLC of Cordova, Tenn., the owner of Joy Health and Rehab in Hernando, could relocate the beds to DeSoto County.

The city of Cleveland and the Mississippi Department of Health appealed.

The judge found Mid-South’s facility in Bolivar County had 75 approved beds but was underutilized. The judge also said there were other nursing beds available in the area and DeSoto County needed more beds.
