A tanker truck crashed and leaked gasoline on Interstate 20 Tuesday, killing the driver and shutting down the busy highway in the Brandon area.

Brandon Police Chief Ken McBroom said the truck’s driver, 39-year-old Charles White of Louise, Miss., died in the about 7 a.m. accident. He said there were no other injuries.

White said the driver apparently lost control of the rig between the downtown Brandon and east Brandon exits. He said tanker ended up on its side and, while gasoline had been released, there was no fire.

Authorities say emergency crews were on the scene but that it could be mid-afternoon before the eastbound and westbound lanes of the interstate are reopened.
