A single vehicle accident on Pea Ridge Road Tuesday night led to the death of Ronald E. Brown.

The Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department received the call about the accident in the Ozona community at about 9:19 p.m. said Capt. Kelvin Stanford.

Investigation into the matter attributes the cause of the accident to the high rate of speed at which Brown, 26, of 298 Pea Ridge Rd. was driving. That night he apparently lost control of a 1994 Honda Accord and left the road, striking a tree. He was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident, Stanford said.

Damage occurred to the front passenger side of the Accord during the accident. After Brown was extricated from the vehicle, he was transported by helicopter to Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg. Brown is reported to have died while in medical care, Stanford said.

Whether drugs or alcohol was a contributing factor is under investigation, Stanford said.
