Lamar County will spend $4 million to renovate the aging county courthouse.

County Administrator Chuck Bennett says the makeover will restore and enhance the best of the original structure while updating and modernizing the building that will turn 104 next year.

He says the work could take up to four years.

Bennett says workers and services will be moved to other buildings next summer so demolition and an asbestos sweep can be done.

He says federal funds may help with some of the cost.
