The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is releasing water from Arkabutla Lake to lower the pool level.
The corps this week began releasing water at a rate of 4,800 cubic feet per second.
Officials at corps’ lake field office say winter rains pushed the lake level to 217.4 feet on Monday. The normal winter pool is 210 feet. They say the lake should return to the normal winter level in two weeks without more rain.
If the lake rises more, officials say the discharge could increase to 5,000 cubic feet each second, or about 6 inches or 7 inches a day.
