Authorities are investigating the weekend death of a man who apparently tried to walk across railroad tracks between two train cars.

Officials have not released the man’s identity.

Investigators with Canadian National believe the man was trespassing in the yard and tried to cross between the 62nd and 63rd cars Saturday around 1:30 a.m.

Canadian National spokesman Patrick Waldron the man’s foot became caught in a coupler that joins the cars together.

A railroad worker discovered some of the man’s remains four miles away in Richland. Jackson police said remains also were found in Jackson.

Another accident involving a train was reported Friday night in Vicksburg when authorities said Michelle Haynes, 42, was hit by a train near Levee and Lee streets.

Haynes was taken to River Region Medical Center. Her condition was not immediately available.

Vicksburg police officer Ron Kinard said she was conscious as rescue workers prepared her to go to the hospital.

Kinard said the Haynes was walking along the tracks and the Kansas City Southern train’s “engineer blew the whistle several times to try to get her to move, but she just waved and kept walking.”
