The Mississippi Highway Safety Patrol is investigating a crash that killed two people and injured three others when the vehicle they were riding in slammed into a trailer carrying rolls of hay on U.S. Highway 45.
Authorities say 30-year-old Martell Davidson, of Shannon, and a passenger, Calvin Jones, of Vardaman, were killed in Friday’s crash just south of the Lee-Monroe County line in Monroe County.
Both men were pronounced dead at the scene of multiple trauma. Monroe County Coroner Alan Gurley said neither was wearing a seat belt when the car collided with a truck, which was pulling the trailer.
Three other passengers in the car were taken to a Tupelo hospital. Their conditions are not known. There were no other injuries.
