Supreme Court reinstates conviction

The Mississippi Supreme Court has reinstated the conviction of William Scott, who was sentenced to life in prison without parole for capital murder in the 2002 shooting death of a Jackson woman.

The state Court of Appeals in March ordered a new trial. Prosecutors appealed.

The Supreme Court reversed the new trial order this past week.

Scott, of Decatur, Ga., was convicted in Hinds County in 2005. Scott was charged in the shooting death of Paula Dinkins, who was killed in an apparent robbery attempt at the check cashing business where she worked.
