Investigators are piecing together information about a traffic accident that left one woman dead and four others injured.

The wreck happened Saturday night on U.S. 78.

Mississippi Highway Patrol Sgt. H.L. Kitchens says 32-year-old Leland Hatley of Nettleton tried to avoid hitting a vehicle that had run out of gas in the middle of the road. Hatley lost control of his vehicle, crossed the median and hit an 18-wheeler.

Kitchens says 32-year-old Michelle Crowley, a passenger in Hatley’s vehicle, was killed instantly in the wreck.
