The state Court of Appeals has upheld the 20-year sentence a Moss Point man was given for shooting his wife in 2006.

June Allen Starr Jr. was convicted of aggravated assault in 2007 in Jackson County.

Prosecutors said Starr shot his wife, Brenda, in the back after a confrontation at their former home in Moss Point. After the shooting in a garage outside, prosecutors said Starr dragged his wounded wife back inside, and a trail of blood left a path for investigators.

Because of the shooting, Brenda Starr lost a kidney and underwent several surgeries.

The Appeals Court on Tuesday rejected June Allen Starr’s claims that he was questioned by police without having waived his rights. Court records show officers testified at Starr’s trial that he agreed to the interrogation.
