The George County Board of Supervisors has approved a bond sale for $2.36 million to build a 96-bed jail expansion.
On Tuesday, the supervisors approved a bid from Duncan and Williams Inc. of Memphis, Tenn., to pay a 4.54 percent rate on the 20-year bond.
Lynn Norris, a financial adviser with Government Consultants Inc. of Jackson, said that the county would have the money from the bond sale by Dec. 29.
The county received seven construction bids at its Nov. 25 meeting and is expected to award a winner at its January meeting. The bid called for completion in 270 days.
The 96-bed addition will bring the facility on the north side of Lucedale to 441 beds.
