A fatal accident early Wednesday morning may have been caused by weather conditions and speed.

Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department Chief Investigator Donnie Saucier said the accident took place Wednesday morning at about 1 a.m. on Caesar Road.

A south bound Nissan Mulano driven by Daniel Ray Jones, 49, of Picayune, left the road, struck a culvert, a tree and then rolled over. Jones was not ejected from the vehicle during the accident, Saucier said. Jones was not wearing his seatbelt.

Saucier said that while the accident is still under investigation, the driver’s speed and the foggy weather conditions last night are considered to be factors.

County coroner Derek Turnage said the cause of death is attributed to massive head trauma.
