The Maroon Tide won its second straight game after beginning the season 0-3, while the Lady Tide is still searching for their first win of the season.

The Picayune boys stopped the previously unbeaten Tomcats 51-43, moving to 2-3 on the year. Vince Gable led the Maroon Tide with a game high 24 points in the win.

Picayune led 14-13 at halftime, only to see the home team come back to take a 32-28 advantage entering the final frame.

But the Maroon Tide turned up the intensity and outscored the Tomcats 23-11 in the fourth period to pull out the win.

“We really clamped down on defense in the fourth quarter,” first year Picayune head coach Thomas Taylor, whose team knocked off arch-rival Pearl River Central in overtime in its last outing, said. “Our defense was excellent in the last quarter, and we made some big stops. Gable also had a really good game offensively, and he did a lot of that with three fouls on him.”

The Maroon Tide will meet Northshore in Slidell on Tuesday.

• The Lady Tide dropped 61-51 decision to the Tomkittens, falling to 0-8 on the season in the process.

Janea Wills scored 16 to pace Picayune, while Arriana McGill added 15 and Andrea Jackson 10 for the Lady Tide.

The Picayune girls are now off for two week, meeting D’Iberville on Dec. 9th.
