A 19-year-old man died instantly when a Brandon police cruiser, en route to a call, crashed into his vehicle.

Authorities said the crash occurred late Saturday night on U.S. Highway 80 at the westbound I-20 exit ramp in Brandon.

The crash killed East Central Community College student Bradley McElroy Jr. of Noxapater and hospitalized a Brandon police officer and a passenger in McElroy’s vehicle.

The wreck is being investigated by the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department.

Brandon Police Chief Ken McBroom said officer Chad Maclain was traveling to a residential burglary call at the time of the crash.
