BILOXI — Picayune’s Lady Tide dropped its season opener on Monday night in the Biloxi Tournament to the host team 66-61.

The Lady Tide will return to action tonight in the three day tournament, meeting Ocean Springs at 6:30.

“It wasn’t a terrible start, but we have a lot of things we have to work on,” Picayune head coach Kristie Mitchell said. “They were pretty big and strong and quick, but we hung in there.”

Monique Brown tallied a game high 29 points to pace Picayune, while Janea Wills added 14 and Karly Moran 9 to the Lady Tide cause.

Camille Dunnings led Biloxi with 22.

Ocean Springs is 1-0 after beating East Marion on Monday night.

“We are playing three 5A schools in this tournament,” Mitchell added. “I think it will mak us better down the road no matter what we do.”

PRC-Oak Grove

BROOKLYN — Oak Grove took a pair of games from Pearl River Central in the first round of the Forrest County AHS Tournament on Monday afternoon.

The Warriors took a 66-46 win over the Blue Devils, dropping PRC to 1-1 on the year.

Josh Nixon scored a game high 21 to pace the Blue Devils, while Je’Barr Locure added 12 and Trey Miller 11 to the PRC cause.

Jay Campbell had 18 to pace Oak Grove. It was the first game of the year for the Warriors.

In the girls’ game, Oak Grove won 68-29 dropping PRC to 0-2.

Kayla Drummond had 16 to pace PRC.

Both PRC teams play in the consolation games of the event this afternoon, and both will meet the loser of Monday’s late games between the host teams and St. Patrick.

Poplarville

POPLARVILLE — Poplarville begins its season tonight as both the Hornets and Lady Hornets travel to Wiggins to take on Stone High.

PRCC-Delgado

POPLARVILLE — Pearl River CC dropped a pair of close games to visiting Delgado to open its basketball season on Monday night.

The Lady Wildcats fell 72-70, while the Wildcats dropped an 89-88 overtime decision to the Dolphins.

For the Lady Wildcats, Sabrina Duncan had a game high 26 points and Shyeeda Wynne added 14 points and , Shondreka Lee had 8 points, 7 assists and 6 rebounds.

For the Wildcats, Nick Johnson and Donta Smith recorded double-double’s with Johnson getting 20 points and 10 boards and Smith scoring 17 points and grabbing 14 rebounds. Timothy Ware added 14 points and 6 assists while Trey Martin chipped in 11 points.

Pearl River returns to action Monday, Nov. 10, when it hosts Holmes CC.
