Lady Hornet takes title

Poplarville’s Stacey Hagenson captured the Class 4A girls cross country state championship over the weekend.
Hagenson ran a 15:19.65 at the state meet at Choctaw Trails on the Mississippi College campus. Her race had an exciting finish as the junior Lady Hornet passed Kaileigh Hunt from Pearl 100 yards from the finish line.
The Poplarville boys’ team finished 17th overall. Tyler Krutzfeldt came in 25th with a time of 18:29. Phillip Travis ran in at 48th place with a 19:13.01 and Luis Jaar came in at 76 with a 19:25.
Poplarville team members are Phillip Travis, Dexter Lee, Luis Jaar, Reanne Parker, Stacey Hagenson, Tyler Krutzfeldt, Dalton Bridgers, Trevor Krutzfeldt, and Zack Holliday.
The team is coached by Eddie Walker, who wants to congratulate his squad on a very good season.
Picayune’s girls and boys also competed on Saturday, with the Lady Tide finishing 18th overall and the Tide 12th overall.
Taylor Galmiche finished 71st for the Lady Tide, Tiffany Guidry 84th and Jasmine Barr 87th for Picayune while Danielle Bossier, Tonia Talavera and Stephanie Bell also ran for the Lady Tide.
For the Tide, Jake Polderman was the top local finisher among the boys as he finished 17th. Also for the Tide, Micah Bergeron finished 40th and Matt Horsley 90th. Also running for the Tide were Darrius Osborne, T.J. Bromwell, Terrance Freeman and Jyrus Bradley.
