A Lincoln County infant whose mother’s boyfriend tried to drown her in a pond seven months ago has died from her injuries.

Lincoln County Deputy Coroner Robert Tyler confirmed the death Monday of 7-month-old A’Keira Hooks. She died at her home Friday morning.

Authorities say 25-year-old Curtney Levorce Gayten of Bogue Chitto tried to drown the infant on April 21. A deputy who responded to the scene fatally shot Gayten while the man allegedly held the baby under water. Officials say the child’s mother and Gayten where involved in a dispute.

Tyler said the death was ruled a homicide.
