A mobile home fire on Wehie Camp Road in Hancock County took the life of one man.

Hancock County Sheriff’s Department received a call about a residential fire on that road Sunday night just before midnight, said Investigator Ricky Fayard.

Leetown and Kiln Volunteer Fire Departments responded to the fire and found the mobile home to be fully involved. The resident of the home was found dead inside the home.

“He almost made it out but he was deceased at the door,” Fayard said.

Investigators believe he died due to smoke inhalation, Fayard said. An official cause of death will be established sometime after an autopsy is performed Tuesday, said Hancock County Coroner Norma Stiglet. She identified the deceased man as 65 year-old Lester Drouant.

No one else was in the home at the time of the fire. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, Fayard said.
