Picayune’s local law enforcement motorcycle organization is holding its annual bike run on Saturday, Nov. 8.

The bike run, called “Ride to Remember”, starts at Jack Reed Park. Mississippi Blue Knights Chapter 9 vice president Chad Dorn said the run will raise money for Picayune Police officers to take a trip to Washington D.C. to participate in the national Police Memorial in May of 2009. The memorial is held every year to honor fallen officers. This will be the department’s first trip to the Washington D.C. Police Memorial week event.

Registration for the event begins at 9 a.m. and the ride is set to begin at 10 a.m.

The run is set to take a route leaving Jack Reed Park toward U.S. 11 N. towards Poplarville. Once in Poplarville, the run will head towards Miss. 53 then to Miss. 603. From Miss. 603 the run will head to Caesar Necaise Road towards Sycamore Road and follow Miss. 43 N. back into Picayune. The ride will end back at Jack Reed Park where hamburgers, cole slaw and drinks will be served, Dorn said.

Registration fees of $20 per bike will be collected before the run to help raise money for the trip, Dorn said.

This weekend a dunking booth will be set up at the Street Fair where patrons will have a chance to dunk a police officer. Dorn said between 10 to 15 officers have agreed to participate in the fund raising event. The booth will be set up at the corner of South Main Street and West Canal next to the mobile command center. The booth is scheduled to be at the Street Fair Saturday and Sunday, Dorn said.
