Medical and Legal Genetics, a DNA testing lab in Ocean Springs, has received accreditation for medical and DNA paternity testing from the College of American Pathologists and the American Association of Blood Banks.

The lab opened in 1986.

It has applied for forensic testing certification through the American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors.

It is one of 26 labs in the United States certified for DNA paternity testing in estate settlements and family law practices. The lab also does genetic testing for private individuals and at the request of physicians, hospitals, clinics, attorneys and law enforcement officials.

The lab also is approved by the federal government for DNA testing in immigration-related investigations.

The lab doesn’t do analysis for criminal cases.
