The U.S. attorney’s office in south Mississippi says a woman has been sentenced to seven months in prison in a Hurricane Katrina fraud case.
Doris H. Wilkerson of Bay Saint Louis pleaded guilty to stealing from the Federal Emergency Management Agency and making false statements in applying for a recovery grant for a house she owned, but did not live in, when Katrina struck in 2005.
After being released from prison, Wilkerson will face three years of supervised release with seven months of home confinement.
She also will have to give back more than $17,000 to FEMA, pay a fine of $25,000 and perform 100 hours of community service.
Wilkerson entered her guilty plea in April and was sentenced this past Friday.
