Bay St. Louis officials have scrapped most of an ordinance that was criticized for overburdening businesses by adding to construction costs.
The city council’s decision prompted in large part by the weakening economy in an area still recovering from Hurricane Katrina.
The ordinance was adopted in March to control growth until new zoning laws and a comprehensive plan were put into place. Critics say the excessive restrictions in the ordinance hampered growth.
